Real Madrid will begin the new season with the spotlight being on the dressing room and the relationships between players. Los Blancos ended the season with numerous stories about discontent and even fights breaking out between players, which will no doubt be at the top of the agenda for the next manager to address, which will likely be Jose Mourinho.

The week before the Clasico was defined by a number of stories claiming that there had been physical altercations between players. Alvaro Carreras was reportedly slapped by Antonio Rudiger, while Dani Carvajal injured youth team player Victor Valdepenas with a rash challenge in training. The coup de grace came three days before facing Barcelona, with Fede Valverde being taken to hospital, and both players being fined €500k. Although both have denied that any punches were thrown, what is clear is that things are far from well.

For his part, the increasingly questioned Kylian Mbappe was not one of those involved. However he has been part of a number of stories, and supposedly finished the season without being on speaking terms with manager Alvaro Arbeloa. As per Diario AS, Mbappe has lost the trust of the dressing room over the course of the season, due to a number of decisions that have not gone down well. The feeling within is that he has put himself before the team on a number of occasions. It is also noted that before Real Madrid’s final game of the season against Athletic Club, in which Mbappe scored, the Real Madrid hierarchy spoke to Mbappe about his behaviour.

Mbappe has also lost the confidence of a number of fans too, and on a number of occasions, was whistled by the Santiago Bernabeu. While he is not alone in that – Jude Bellingham, Fede Valverde and particularly Vinicius Junior have all received similar treatment – it is clear that Mbappe is no longer a fan favourite for the Bernabeu. Naturally he is only a good run of form away from changing that, but there is little doubt that public opinion of Mbappe has been on the slide in Madrid.
