Real Madrid have announced their sixth signing of the 2026 summer transfer window, and it’s the biggest so far. In recent weeks, strong efforts have been made to sign Yan Diomande, and although they had to wait for an agreement with RB Leipzig, one has now been forthcoming, which the club themselves have made known.

Earlier in the summer, it became known that Real Madrid were in the market for an elite right-sided attacker. Michael Olise was their desired target, but after Bayern Munich made it very clear that a deal would not happen in 2026, Bernabeu bosses pivoted to Diomande, who had been poised to join Paris Saint-Germain.

Real Madrid quickly managed to agree terms with Diomande, but getting a deal done with RB Leipzig proved to be much more difficult. After weeks of negotiations, a deal was eventually agreed on Thursday for a total package of €140m, and hours later, the club has now confirmed in an official statement that the transfer is complete.

“Real Madrid C. F. and RB Leipzig have reached an agreement for the transfer of the player Yan Diomande, who is linked to our club for the next seven seasons, until June 30, 2033.”

Diomande could be Real Madrid’s final summer signing

Real Madrid had hoped to end the summer transfer window with several signings. Diomande was wanted alongside Rodri and a new central defender, although there is now a very good chance that the Ivory Coast international turns out to be their final addition.

Rodri looked like a guaranteed signing, but he has since decided to pursue a move to Barcelona. Furthermore, a new central defender will also not arrive if someone does not depart first – the favoured candidate would be Raul Asencio, although he is currently injured and he also has no desire to move away, despite not being counted on by Jose Mourinho.
