Real Madrid 4-1 Real Sociedad: Match review | La Liga

Real Madrid have made it two wins from two at the start of the 2026-27 La Liga season after they defeated Real Sociedad 4-1 at the Bernabeu on Wednesday.

Somewhat surprisingly, Jose Mourinho opted against making any changes to the Real Madrid side that won late at Espanyol on Saturday, although this decision not to freshen up the line-up has looked questionable for much of the first half. Los Blancos struggled to make much of an impression on the visitors, with half-chances being the closest they have come to scoring – the best falling to Vinicius Junior, who was denied on the angle by La Real goalkeeper Alex Remiro.

However, they managed to break the deadlock five minutes before half time. A wonderful pass from Federico Valverde was well-controlled by Kylian Mbappe, who took one touch before firing into the top corner to score his first goal of the season. But that advantage did not last long, as the ball broke to Luka Sucic inside the penalty area, and he fired beyond Thibaut Courtois to bring the visitors level so soon after falling behind.

Real Madrid take control in second half

Real Madrid came out in the second half in search of a second goal, and they did not have to wait too long for it to come. Right on the hour mark, a fine team move ended with Mbappe and Jude Bellingham exchanging a 1-2, and the former finished low into the far corner for his second of the evening, much to the delight of the Bernabeu crowd.

Seven minutes later, Real Madrid got the two-goal lead they craved, and it was all thanks to Bellingham. He showed great desire to win the ball back after a blocked pass before setting up Vinicius to score his first goal of the season from a couple of yards out. The Brazilian would then turn provider for the fourth goal, as he brilliantly played in Mbappe to chip home for hiis hat-trick.

Brahim Diaz had a late goal ruled out for offside after Carlos Espi strayed behind the La Real defence, but it mattered little in the end. Four goals and three points for Real Madrid, who go top of the La Liga table in emphatic fashion.
