Real Madrid defender Raul Asencio undergoes successful surgery

Despite significantly strengthening their defense during the last summer transfer window, Real Madrid are once again facing a kind of defensive crisis. The Merengues will face Villarreal in the next league game, once the September international break ends, and Jose Mourinho will not have a lot of options available for the center-back positions.

Eder Militao is still recovering from the injury he suffered during the last season, while Ibrahima Konate also suffered a physical problem while training at the French national team camp during this break, which caused him to return to Real Madrid without playing a single minute for his national team. Dean Huijsen is also suspended for the Villarreal game because of his red card in the derby.

In such a context, Raul Asencio could have been a useful option for Mourinho, but now, the Spaniard is also going to remain unavailable for several months. This is the case as he decided to undergo surgery for his lingering tibia problems.

This surgery took place today, and as Diario AS has reported, Real Madrid announced on their official website that this intervention was successful. The statement from the Merengue club went as follows:

“Our player Raúl Asencio underwent successful surgery today performed by Dr Manuel Leyes for a stress fracture of the right tibia. The operation was overseen by the Real Madrid Medical Services. Asencio will begin his recovery process in the coming days.”

Hopefully, the entire recovery process will be completed without any problems for Raul Asencio. Although the center-back is now set to remain on the sidelines for several months now, which will certainly not be a very desirable scenario for Mourinho, this decision was still understandable, as it can allow the center-back to return to his best level in the coming months. Hopefully, this will be the case, and he will prove to be another reliable option for his team once he returns to action.
