Real Madrid have been dealt a fresh injury blow just weeks before Jose Mourinho’s side get their 2026-27 season underway. The likes of Eder Militao and Rodrygo Goes are already confirmed to be absent for the start of the new campaign, and they have now been joined in the treatment room by young midfielder Thiago Pitarch.
Pre-season has been ongoing for the last two weeks at Valdebebas, although Mourinho has been without the vast majority of the players that were in international action over the summer. Pitarch was one of the few to have returned early after helping Spain win the U19 European Championship, as he sought to impress his new manager in order to be in his plans for the upcoming season.
Unfortunately, Pitarch’s hopes of impressing Mourinho have been curtailed by a knee injury, as per Diario AS. The teenager damaged the medial lateral ligament of his left knee during a recent training session, and he will now begin a spell on the sidelines.
Pitarch injury complicated expected summer exit
According to the report, Pitarch will be out of action for 6-8 weeks. This means that he will not return to action until September, which is not only a big blow for himself, but also for Real Madrid, who had planned to seek an exit for the La Fabrica graduate.
Given that Mourinho prefers to count on Aurelien Tchouameni, Federico Valverde, Bernardo Silva and Eduardo Camavinga, and also the fact that Rodri could be signed from Manchester City, there was little chance for Pitarch to see regular action if he stayed at Real Madrid. In order not to affect his development, the plan has been for him to leave in search of regular minutes elsewhere, but interest could dry up now that he’s set for an extended spell on the sidelines.
